New book by Stefan Liebing: Why the 2030s will be the “African decade”

Flensburg/Hamburg, 09/12/2025: Just in time for the start of 2026, Prof. Dr. Stefan Liebing, member of the CBTA and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cameroon, is presenting his new book. Entitled Das afrikanische Jahrzehnt: Warum wir einen neuen Blick auf Afrika brauchen (“The African Decade: Why we need a new perspective on Africa”, this in-depth analysis, published by Springer-Verlag on January 20, invites readers to reassess our neighboring continent.

Liebing, an entrepreneur and former chairman of the German-African Business Association, has experience from more than 300 trips to almost every country on the continent. In his work, he goes beyond the usual narratives of crises and clichés.

From crisis continent to global solution provider

The book’s core thesis is highly relevant to both academia and business: without Africa, there will be no effective solutions to the most pressing global challenges. Liebing argues that issues such as climate protection, energy security, sustainable migration policy, and functioning multilateralism are inextricably linked to the development of the African continent.

In doing so, he emphasizes the heterogeneity of the “54 countries, 54 realities.” Instead of a blanket assessment, the book paints a picture of economic awakening, driven by digitalization, the expansion of renewable energies, and new growth centers. At the same time, Liebing analyzes the rapid social change that is characterized by a young population, advancing urbanization, and improvements in education and health.

Required reading for decision-makers

For the CBTA, this publication is another example of the practical knowledge transfer of our members. The book is aimed at anyone who wants to understand why the 2030s could be defined geopolitically and economically as the “African decade.” It is a plea for genuine partnerships on an equal footing and offers new perspectives for investors, policymakers, and academics.

The book will be available in stores from January 20, 2026.
