Double success in the “Top 100”: Kay Pfaffenberger honored

Berlin, 08/12/2025: Great recognition for scientific work at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences: Prof. Dr. Kay Pfaffenberger, head of the Centre for Business and Technology in Africa (CBTA), was selected by the editors of “Africa.Table” (Table.Media) to the prestigious list of the “Top 100 of the Table 2025.” In the “Science” category, the jury recognized his many years of expertise in the fields of investment, banking, and renewable energies, as well as his commitment to the DAAD exchange program with partner universities in Windhoek and Cape Town.

Unique constellation in the German higher education landscape

However, Pfaffenberger’s honor this year marks a special institutional achievement that goes beyond personal success. At the same time, CBTA member Prof. Dr. Stefan Liebing was also honored by the jury – but in the “Consulting” category.

This makes the CBTA, to the best of our knowledge, the only institution in Germany to have two people represented in different categories of this influential ranking at the same time. While other players are usually either purely scientific or purely entrepreneurial, the CBTA’s double placement proves its successful special position.

Interface between theory and practice

This constellation underscores the center’s strategic orientation: it functions as an effective interface between “science,” “consulting,” “business,” and “politics.” The parallel recognition of Pfaffenberger (focus: teaching, research, networking) and Liebing (focus: business, hydrogen projects, infrastructure) shows that the interlinking of theoretical analysis and practical implementation in German-African cooperation is being put into practice in Flensburg.
