Vocational Training and Green Value Chains

Flensburg, 12/04/2026: The transition toward sustainable economies is reshaping the demand for technical skills across European and African labour markets, making the alignment of vocational education with industrial transformation a central concern of development policy.

During the CESAR Strategic Workshop Week, delegations from the Namibia University of Science and Technology and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology examined this nexus directly. A visit to the Handwerkskammer offered insight into the German dual training system, while engagement at Krones connected these principles to applied manufacturing. The myBoo bamboo bicycle enterprise demonstrated how fair-trade African raw materials can be integrated into high-value European production.

These observations carry direct relevance for the modernisation of African TVET institutions — not through the transfer of models, but their structural adaptation within a coherent policy framework.
