Skills and Innovation in Germany – Africa Cooperation

Flensburg, 12/04/2026: Higher education and vocational training partnerships have become a structural element of Germany’s development cooperation with Africa. Amid economic uncertainty and shifting geopolitical alignments, investment in skills and innovation ecosystems is increasingly understood as a long-term strategic instrument.

The CESAR Strategic Workshop Week (12–18 April 2026) brought partners from the Namibia University of Science and Technology and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology to Hochschule Flensburg. Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the DAAD, the programme combined institutional dialogue, partnership mapping, a joint research symposium and site visits across Schleswig-Holstein.

The week underlined the geopolitical relevance of Africa as a partner in skills development and green transformation, and the value of resilient, long-term cooperation between European and African universities of technology.
