Maritime Expertise for Germany-Africa Cooperation

Flensburg, 16/09/2026: Maritime trade, port infrastructure and the governance of ocean space are gaining strategic importance for Africa’s economic development. Shifting global trade routes add to their geopolitical relevance.

Against this background, the CBTA welcomes Prof. Sander Limant as a new member. Prof. Limant is professor for Nautical Science at Hochschule Flensburg. His expertise covers the international law of the sea, maritime commercial law and navigation.

Under the direction of Prof. Kay Pfaffenberger, the Centre continues to broaden its interdisciplinary profile. With this addition, maritime affairs becomes a new field of competence, complementing the Centre’s work on economic cooperation, energy transition and development policy.

The appointment strengthens the Centre’s capacity to address the maritime dimension of long-term Germany-Africa partnership.
