Sri Lanka, 30/09/2026: How can the sustainability of global supply
chains be improved, and how can the transition towards a circular
economy be implemented? These are among the questions addressed by Prof.
Dr. habil. Marcus Brandenburg as part of his research and knowledge
transfer activities at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences. During
his research trip to Sri Lanka in September 2026, he presented current
findings from this work at two international academic events.
At the University of Moratuwa, Brandenburg delivered a Visitors Talk on
Germany’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Act
(Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz, LkSG) and its implications for
companies and international supply chains. At the subsequent Global
Conference for Sustainable Manufacturing (GCSM) in Colombo, he presented
research findings on the circular economy in small and medium-sized
enterprises in the German-Danish border region.
The presentations draw on scientific studies conducted at Flensburg
University of Applied Sciences, including research carried out within
the GrønBusiness project in the fields of sustainable value chains and
the circular economy, together with doctoral researchers and students
under Brandenburg’s supervision. Scientific knowledge generated at the
university is thus not only integrated into teaching, but also made
visible at international academic events.
This international transfer of knowledge strengthens the visibility and
international network of Flensburg University of Applied Sciences in a
research field that is highly relevant to sustainability and industrial
transformation. International exchange with universities and research
partners also provides new impetus for joint research and for the
further development of teaching.
“International conferences and direct exchange with researchers on site
are indispensable for bringing research and knowledge-transfer findings
into international discussion and for gaining new perspectives and
impulses for further research,” says Brandenburg.
